In an effort to explore the era of the down of the speciality of Pathology in Greece, an investigation of the Hellenic Medical Literature in the Archival Medical Library of Geroulanion Foundation was carried out. In a dissertation by Dr. Rontopoulos published on 1911 in Athens, there are references that show clearly that Histopathological examination of surgical specimens was already practiced in Greece since 1891, and a diagnostic histopathology Department has already been in function at least since 1902 in «Areteion» Hospital in Athens.
