A case of a 67 years-old woman with a cystic tumor of the left
ovary is described. Focal growth of invasive squamous cell carcinoma
was microscopically found. The cystic areas of the lesion were
lined either by one layer of cuboidal epithelium or by multilayered
squamous epithelium. The squamous epithelium represented metaplasia
of the cuboidal epithelium. A thin layer of loose stroma with
abundant iron-laden macrophages was frequently observed beneath
the cuboidal epithelium. The patient denied any other therapy
after the surgical operation. Eventually, the tumor locally recurred,
and now the patient is receiving chemotherapy.
