Small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic type is a distinctive variety of undifferentiated neoplasm of uncertain lineage. These tumors quite often contain large cells with abundant cytoplasm which, occasionally, predominate. Tumors containing these cells have been referred to as the large-cell variant of small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic type. A case of the large-cell variant of small cell carcinoma of the ovary in a 36-year old woman is presented. The histopathologic features, the immunoprofile, the differential diagnosis and the histogenesis of these tumors are described.

Key words: Ovary, small cell carcinoma, large cell variant.
