I N V I T A T I O N

Dear friends and colleagues:

I have the pleasure to invite you to the 8th International Pituitary Pathology Meeting to be held on October 5-9, 2001. The first four days of the meeting will take place in Delphi and the last day in Athens.

Preparations are smoothly progressing and are under the way of an interesting scientific event. The program includes workshops, slide seminar, symposiums on hot topics and the latest developments in all fields of Pituitary Pathology, and round table discussions with particular emphasis to diagnostic approach and management, providing guidance in resolving everyday problems. In this multidisciplinary meeting, pathologists, endocrinologists, radiologists, neurosurgeons and basic scientists from all over the world will get together to exchange ideas of mutual interest in a friendly atmosphere.

Greece, the land of Hippocrates, founder of modern Medicine is an ideal place for hosting this meeting. The inspiring landscape of Delphi under the light of God Apollo, patron of Medicine, and the historical attractions of Athens, city of Athena - Goddess of wisdom offer a pleasant atmosphere for a successful scientific congregation. The 3.000-year Greek antiquity and the beauty of Aegean islands promise a relaxing and unforgettable stay.

I do hope the meeting will be stimulating, fruitful and it will contribute to a better understanding of the pituitary structure and function.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you in Greece.

Yours sincerely,

George Kontogeorgos M.D.

DELPHI

Delphi is a picturesque small town, approximately three-hour drive from the airport of Athens. Its history is as old as Greece itself. According to myth, recounts that Zeus (the father of Gods) released two eagles, one from the East and one from the west, and at the point they met, he threw the Sacred Stone, marking the center of the earth-the navel of the world.

Delphi, nestling in the feet of Mount Parnassos, became renowned in antiquity and in the modern world for its famous sanctuary of Apollo, god of light and music, and patron of Medicine as well as for the cult of god Dionyssos, patron of the theatre. In ancient times, people flocked from all over the known world to receive the oracles of Pythia and participate in the Pythian Games. As an athletic event these games were second in importance only the great Olympic Games, yet first in the Panhellenic Contests for music and poetry. During the Pythian Games a truce was declared among warring factions to facilitate the participation of the artists, athletes, spectators and pilgrims. This truce offered to rival city-states an opportunity for peace while competing in the athletic track and in the field of the arts.

The temple of Apollo and the archeological museum of Delphi are today one of the most renown sites in the world.

Half an hour from Delphi, you may find the ski resort of Parnassos.

In the town of Delphi you may find the following banks: NATIONAL BANK OF GREECE and COMMERCIAL BANK OF GREECE. Several local shops accept most credit cards.
