Infiltration of the nasal mucosa by pituitary adenoma is uncommon and polypoid projection into the nasal cavity, is only infrequently encountered. An unusual case of a pituitary adenoma presented as nasal polyp in a 51-yrs-old patient with rhinorrhea is discussed. The tumor showed focal immunoreactivity for gonadotrophins (FSH and LH) and prolactin, and ultrastructurally had the morpology of a null cell, partly oncocytic adenoma associated with glycoprotein production. The differential diagnosis from other nasal tumors is discussed, and a brief review of the relevant literature is presented.
Key words: adenoma, immunohistochemistry, pituitary, nasal polyp, ultrastructure.
