Pathology Department, Areteion Hospital Athens

Cystic tumors of the pancreas are rare and account for 1% of the pancreatic neoplasms. Four cases of cystic pancreatic tumors were retrieved from the files of the Department of Pathology, Areteion Hospital, during a 15-year period. These four cases consisted of a microcystic (glycogen-rich) adenoma, a solid papillary tumor and two mucinous neoplasms, all occurring in young female patients. The cystic tumors of the pancreas are usually large lesions with characteristic clinicopathologic features. They may be asymptomatic or cause abdominal pain. Their prognosis depends on the histologic type but overall it is very good, if they are completely excised. Complete local excision is the treatment of choice for these neoplasms.

Key words: Pancreas, Cystic tumors.
