We describe an extremely rare case of fibromatosis of the breast
in a 24-year-old woman, who attended the hospital due to a palpable
mass of considerable size in her left breast. The clinical diagnosis
was between carcinoma or phyllodes tumor of the breast. Fine needle
aspiration (FNA), gave evidence advocating fibromatosis without
however excluding the phyllodes tumor diagnosis. Consequently,
the excision of the tumor was performed and the histopathologic
examination of the tumor revealed an aggressive fibromatosis of
the breast. The patient remained well until two years later when
she was admitted with sings that may suggest possible relapsing
at early stages. As a result of this case report we discuss the
clinical, pathological and diagnostic dilemmas that might arise
due to this uncommon tumor and a brief review of the relevant
literature is presented.
Key words: Mammary Fibromatosis.
