A case of alkaline encrusted cystitis is described in a 67 year
old man with a history of urinary infections, laboratory alkalisation
of urine and in cystoscopy focal calcium deposits on the wall
of the bladder trigone. Surgical exicion of calcified plaque was
performed and complementary treatment with antibiotics and urease
inhibitors was done. The patient remains well until now. This
rare form of cystitis seems to be a concrete clinical and histopathological
entity with a good prognosis when the diagnosis is set ontime
and the adequate treatment is applied.
Key words: Alkaline encrusted cystitis.
